What I Personally Built
I engineered the full backend layer, authentication workflows, database schema, and native RTL frontend architecture:
- Resilient Node.js Backend API: Constructed a structured REST API using Express, incorporating JWT session token issuance, rate limiting, and parameterized SQL queries to prevent injection vulnerabilities.
- Dual-Database Architecture with Automatic Failover: Designed and implemented a connection manager that routes queries to a primary Supabase PostgreSQL instance, continuously monitors query timeouts, and gracefully falls back to a replica hosted on Render if the primary becomes unreachable.
- Arabic-First Design System: Developed a pure RTL interface using modern CSS logical properties (`margin-inline`, `padding-inline`, `inset-inline-start`) ensuring typography, layout flow, and navigation behave authentically without flipped text bugs.
- Granular Role-Based Permissions: Designed the database authorization schema supporting three discrete user roles (Student, Instructor, and Community Admin) with row-level access control on publishing and moderation endpoints.
Engineering Challenges & Solutions
Cloud database maintenance windows occasionally interrupt service for 1–2 minutes. Standard Node.js database drivers fail hard with unhandled promise rejections when a remote endpoint resets.
Solution: Encapsulated the PostgreSQL client within a resilient connection pool wrapper that catches connection timeouts, switches the connection string to the Render replica within 500 ms, and replays failed read queries transparently without showing an error screen to the user.
Technical articles in Arabic regularly mix right-to-left prose with left-to-right code blocks and terminal commands. Without strict bi-directional isolation, punctuation and brackets jump to the wrong side of the line.
Solution: Applied strict CSS `unicode-bidi: isolate` wrappers on code tokens and embedded terminal blocks, preserving correct Latin monospace syntax while maintaining graceful right-to-left Arabic paragraph flow.
